June 05, 2009

Dandruff is as dreaded as the name imply. Millions of people every year experience this problem. The solutions are known. As well as the causes. Too many people knows the embarrassment of those flaking.

Dandruff is caused by excessive shedding of dead skin cells from the scalp. Everyone agrees it is normal to experience some dead skins cells (flaking). Though some people will experience an excessive amount of flaking, including possibly redness and irritation on the scalp. The face and the neck can also be affected by such redness.

We can talk here about a chronic scalp condition needing treatment. Such treatments can be found at your beauty supply. Dandruff is usually associated with the overgrowth of a fungus called Pityrosporum ovale.

Another aspect is that over-styling and overusing some harsh hair care products can lead to dandruff. Dry scalp dandruff can also lead to dandruff: it is also called pityriasis. While oily scalp dandruff can increase the production on yeast on the scalp thus causing excess skin removal. Using a bad shampoo can also potentially increase the dandruffs problem rather than curing it ! Your beauty supply should have the right shampoos for you.

Allergic reactions to some chemical in some hair gels and sprays are a misconception. Food, like sugar and yeast, excessive perspiration and some climate can add to the potentiality of getting dandruffs, as well as seasonal changes, stress and an immuno-suppression condition.

Most people do find themselves bad when getting those flaking. Besides, if no treatment is sought, one might find those dead cells over one own shirt or even others people might notice them thus increasing the personal inconvenience. Some will quickly found out that wearing dark colored clothes is not a good choice when having dandruffs. Both men and women experience dandruffs. This is a scalp related problem. Your beauty supply do have solutions for that problem.

Some cures for dandruffs include using shampoos with sulfur, salicylic acid and tars. Using a normal shampoo on an increased usage will reduce dandruff though the fungus can only be killed by a specialized treatment. Look for a shampoo with an anti-fungal component. Those shampoo are found at your beauty supply.

The most common anti-fungal treatment includes Zinc pyrithione, Selenium sulfide and Ketoconazole. Anti-fungal treatment with Ketoconazole has been proved to be more effective than those with Zinc pyrithione. Then the first ones are usually used for light dandruff problem and the latest one for severe dandruff condition. Those shampoos should be used two to four times a week to clear the problem. Once done, use the treatment only each week or two weeks to prevent the fungus to come back. Those treatments are available at your beauty supply.

Others aspects to include in order to reduce dandruffs is to gently brush the scalp and having a good daily diet habit.
